Funding for your postdoctoral stay abroad

German Research Foundation - Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG)

The research fellowship is intended to enable young researchers to carry out a defined research project abroad at a location of their choice and, in this context, to acquire knowledge of new scientific methods or to complete a larger research project. Further information on fellowships can be found on the website of the German Research Foundation

Alexander von Humboldt Foundation (AvH)

The Feodor Lynen-Research Fellowship supports postdoctoral researchers in carrying out a long-term research project (6 to 24 months) of their own choice in cooperation with an academic host of their choice at a research institution abroad. The host must be a researcher abroad already sponsored by the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation. Further information can be found on the website of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation.

Marie Curie Fellowships of the European Union (EU)

Individual Fellowships (IF) support individual research projects by experienced researchers at research institutions within and outside Europe. They are divided into European Fellowships (EF) and Global Fellowships (GF) and aim to support scientific careers through international and intersectoral mobility. This should help researchers to achieve or strengthen an independent research position.
For further information, please visit the website of the National Contact Point Mobility or check the EU calls for proposals.

Postdoc Scholarships of the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD)

The DAAD offers scholarships for research stays abroad for especially qualified young German researchers who have completed their doctorates. These scholarships are aimed in particular at candidates for whom a stay abroad following completion of their doctorate represents an important step in qualifying them for a later career in science, business or the cultural sector. Scholarships are offered worldwide for all academic disciplines and are awarded for a period of three to 24 months. Further information can be found directly on the DAAD website.
